Comprehensive Planning
We’ve created over 150 comprehensive plans for local communities using our experience in leading citizens, staff, and elected officials through Needs Assessment and Community Visioning. The planning process addresses the needs of the population, housing, recreation, land use, and economic development with detailed studies and research. Emphasis is placed on water, sewer, streets, and drainage infrastructure analysis and project cost estimates. Our planning process provides digitized maps, a system for gathering feedback from residents and local businesses, and a list of improvement projects, costs, and suggestions according to priority.
Colonia Planning
Our staff has offered colonia planning services since 1995, creating maps of the identified neighborhoods and assisting counties with addressing infrastructure and housing needs. In total, GrantWorks has completed 32 Colonia Plans to help counties within 150 miles of the Texas-Mexico border in obtaining grant funds to improve colonias in the jurisdiction. Our experience in this work is unmatched by any other planning firm in Texas.
Planning Grants
We assist communities with writing competitive applications for available funds and administering planning grants. In Texas, we work with the Texas Department of Agriculture to secure grant funding from the Community Development Block Grant program for Small Town Comprehensive Planning every two years. Grant amounts range from $20,000 to $55,000.
Hazard Mitigation Planning
Applications to the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) must have a FEMA-approved Hazard Mitigation Plan in place before submitting an application. We can assist with the grant writing and application process with a new or updated Hazard Mitigation Plan, shepherding the plan through FEMA approval, and assisting with subsequent grant applications with the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.
GIS Mapping
We create maps of city limits, land uses, zoning, and infrastructure using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software. We’ll conduct on-site fieldwork in the community, digitize and update existing paper maps, and create databases that put all of the city’s spatial information into one comprehensive system. These maps and databases can be converted to AutoCAD format for engineering use.
Additional Planning Services
We work with communities to provide focused studies on single planning elements or a variety of elements. These may include capital improvement plans, housing plans, ordinance reviews, and downtown revitalization plans.
