Resilient SRQ Delivers Results for Sarasota County Residents

Written by Rachel Henson

GrantWorks is proud to continue supporting Sarasota County, Florida, in the implementation of the Resilient SRQ Program, funded through a $201.5 million the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) award following Hurricane Ian.

Since partnering with the County, GrantWorks has helped advance housing recovery, infrastructure improvements, affordable housing development, and workforce initiatives that support long-term community resilience.

The program’s impact is truly being felt across Sarasota County, from individual homeowners to large-scale community projects.

Recently, a Newtown homeowner, who received a home rehabilitation grant through Resilient SRQ, shared her appreciation for the program, saying, “Resilient SRQ took care of me from the beginning to the end.”

Following repairs to storm damage caused by Hurricane Ian, the homeowner was delighted to see that her newly renovated home closely resembled the original home built for her grandmother years ago.

Significant progress is also being made on infrastructure and affordable housing projects.

HUD recently authorized funding for three infrastructure projects, allowing construction and grant activities to move forward at the following locations in Sarasota County:

  • Colonial Oaks Park;
  • Longwood Park; and
  • North Port Health Center.

Meanwhile, construction continues on Sarasota Station and Avella North Port, two multifamily affordable housing developments that will add more than 400 housing units to the community.

Sarasota Station will include 202 units, with 104 remaining affordable for 40 years, while Avella North Port will provide 216 units, all of which will remain affordable for the same period.

Construction of affordable housing developments is ongoing at Avella North Port in Sarasota County, Fla.

In addition, the Venice YMCA Campus Improvements project and Rosedale Apartments have executed sub-recipient agreements with Sarasota County and are currently advancing through environmental review.

These milestones reflect the dedication of Sarasota County alongside the GrantWorks team as they continue working together to support recovery efforts and build a stronger Sarasota County.

Thank you to our Sarasota County partners and all of the GrantWorks employees who have helped make these dreams become a reality for Sarasota residents!
